Drugstore brands are 3X cheaper and just as goodFeb 04, 2010
By puggle I have tried nearly every drugstore brand chapstick/lip balm, so this was my first venture into the "luxury brand" chapstick. My thoughts?
Pros:
Application was smooth when it worked* (*see cons) and did not feel sticky, clumpy, gooey or oily. Squeeze tube applicator is much neater than the twist-up tube, in my opinion.
The smell is great- almond/amaretto!
Melts quickly into lips. I was surprised I could not "taste" it and was worried that it wore off too quickly, but in actuality it seems to sink in and keep lips soft from the inside, if that's possible. The instructions say to keep applying, that lips will improve with constant use; I find that to be very true.
Cons:
Alright, I'll explain the above *. I found an old tube in my box-o-stuff and it was rock solid. After warming it a bit in my hands, the tube seemed to soften, but it still would not exude. So I think this tends to solidify over time and at lower temperatures.
I purchased a second tube and was shocked when I found it had significantly different consistency from the first tube. It was not only clumpier and greasier, but you could almost detect fibers...like the name says, "Cashmere fiber lip kix". But I don't want to feel the actual fibers!! [I don't know if this was an anomaly or if the quality has gone to pits. I did not follow up and buy a third tube]
The price. If you're used to paying $3 or less for drugstore lip balm, then the $10+ price tag on these puppies is going to hurt.
Verdict: I liked the first tube but did not get the same quality product on my second purchase. I get consistent results from my $2.99 tube of Burts Bees, so I will stick with BB. To me, the extra price for Borba is not worth it.
Its okay.May 08, 2009
By Jennifer Cortez I like this product, but it makes your lips feel a little... slippery? It doesn't seem to stay on for long. The best part about this item, by far, is the smell.
great stuff!Jan 25, 2008
By Emily Pogozelski I am a lip gloss/balm connoisseur-- and this one is much better than the vast majority that I've tried over the years. Silky smooth, works very well, and doesn't disappear when you lick your lips. Supposedly "good for your skin" when you lick it off anyway, but not sticky like the lipgloss that came from BORBA's collaboration with Tarte.
One thing they don't mention anywhere that I've found (though I haven't looked too closely) is that it smells faintly like amaretto. In my opinion, this is the icing on the cake-- I love amaretto! If you dislike the scent, you might want to avoid this product.
On a side note, I've used all of BORBA's other products for the last 2 years, and absolutely love them.

This is a great lip treatment at a great price!! The tube is big and a little goes a long way. I used to use lip balm all day constantly but not anymore- this is far superior and I only need to use it 2-3 times a day always before bed. My lips remain soft with no chapping!! Awesome stuff- try it!
